Russia has started the final stage of the development of the Pantsir-SM-SV modernized ground force air defense system.
The Rostec Corporation said that tests of a new modification of the self-propelled air defense system (SPAD) are coming to an end.
The checks carried out have already allegedly shown the compliance of the system with the requirements imposed by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The development is carried out by the KBP Instrument Design Bureau in Tula, which is a part of the High Precision Systems Holding of the Rostec corporation.
The new system is designed specifically to cover troops in any situation, it should accompany troops in off-road conditions.
The SPAD armament is mounted on a new tracked chassis. This allows the system to accompany and cover infantry and air defense systems on the march with snow and off-road.
It is noted that the new system is armed with two types of anti-aircraft missiles, it has an increased fire range, the characteristics are not disclosed.
“The appearance of the Pantsir-SM-SV air defense system in troops will greatly increase the capabilities of air defense at low altitudes and in a near zone,” the Russian corporation said.
The system received a new radar based on an active electronically scanned array antenna, capable of detecting targets at a distance of up to 80 km.
It is stated that the firepower of one Pantsir-SM-SV can reach 16 targets, which get intercepted in a minute.
The range of intercepted targets should be up to 40 km.
In November of last year, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the Russian Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile system in the Kherson region.
