An unknown drone flew into the territory of the Russian Shaikovka airbase in the Kaluga Region.
This was reported by local media.
The explosion occurred while the drone was over the runway.
Vladislav Shapsha, governor of the Kaluga region commented on the situation to the local journalists.
“Today [October 7 – ed.] an explosion occurred at the Shaykovka military airfield in the Kaluga region. A drone fell, which probably flew from the border,” the governor said.
According to him, there were no victims of the incident.
He stressed that the infrastructure of the military airbase and equipment are not damaged.
The governor also said that an investigative and operational group is now working at the scene, which should establish the causes and circumstances of the incident.
The Shaikovka air base is located in the western part of the Kaluga Region.
The 52nd Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment of the Russian Air Force is stationed there.
The regiment is armed with Tu-22М3 long-range supersonic bombers, which periodically shell the territory of Ukraine with Kh-22 supersonic cruise missiles.
