Canada plans to provide $500 million in military assistance to Ukraine between 2022 and 2023.
Militarnyi informs about this.
The Government of Canada has submitted a Draft Budget for 2022-23 to the Parliament. The document accounts for the financing of purchases of weapons and providing additional loans for Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.
“2022 Budget proposes to account for an additional 500 million CAD (approximately $416 million) in 2022-23 to provide further military aid to Ukraine,” says the document.
Canada will also be providing a 1 billion CAD (approximately $830 million) loan to Ukraine to support its government commitments.
“2022 Budget announces that Canada will be offering up to 1 billion CAD as a loan to the Ukrainian government through the new Administered Account for Ukraine at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) so that the government could continue to operate. Canada has been working with the government of Ukraine, the IMF, and other member countries to develop this mechanism and encourage allies and partners to join in and participate,” says the statement.
The government budget is yet to be supported by Canadian lawmakers. Most probably, it will be approved quickly.
Canada is providing both lethal and non-lethal assistance, and, in partnership with the allies, is sharing intelligence and supporting Ukraine’s cybersecurity.
Last month, it was reported that Canada would be sending a batch of highly-specialized military equipment to Ukraine, the type and quantity of which were not disclosed.
