The Israeli army has begun to observe the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The IDF announced that the ceasefire agreement had come into force at 12:00, Israeli correspondent Itay Blumental reported. It provides for a cessation of hostilities and a number of humanitarian steps, including the return of hostages.

Army units have taken up new deployment lines in accordance with the agreed plan. This is part of the agreements reached between the parties under the mediation of the United States.

The agreement is aimed at reducing tensions in the region and creating conditions for further negotiations. Its implementation is closely monitored by both local and international observers.

Earlier it became known that Israel was preparing to withdraw troops from 70% of the Gaza Strip as part of the first phase of the truce.

Hamas will retain control over 53% of the region. These figures are enshrined in the peace plan agreed upon with the mediation of the United States.

The first phase of the agreement includes the release of all living Israeli hostages and more than two thousand Palestinian prisoners. US President Donald Trump characterized the agreements as part of his 20-point peace plan, which he presented last week.
