It has been revealed how much 155-mm artillery shells manufactured in Ukraine cost.

Vladyslav Belbas, CEO of Ukrainian Armor, disclosed the prices of domestically produced ammunition of various types in an interview with Militarnyi.

According to him, a standard 155-mm M107 shell costs from €2,500.

“The M107 costs about €2,500, the L15 shell (with increased power and extended range) costs €3,000, and long-range shells cost around €5,500 per unit,” Belbas shared.

The CEO also spoke about the codification of the L15 high-explosive fragmentation shell, which features extended range and increased destructive capability.

“Initially, we planned to produce the L15 using standard propellant. However, there is now a requirement to increase the firing range, so we are in the process of codifying the L15 with so-called Red Bag charges. This is M119 propellant, which provides a range of more than 20 kilometers for this round. It is a standard round, but it contains twice as much TNT, making it more powerful. Its equivalent is the American M795,” Belbas explained.

In addition, Ukrainian Armor is developing the production of long-range artillery ammunition of the Boat Tail and Base Bleed types (with a base gas generator), which are capable of engaging targets at distances of 30 and 40 kilometers respectively.

Currently, these shells are undergoing testing and codification in Ukraine.

Prices in Russia

For comparison, for modern Russian 152-mm artillery systems such as the Msta, the cost of a standard round in 2024 was estimated at RUB 94,000–98,000 (about $1,250).

Meanwhile, long-range rounds were estimated to cost around RUB 124,000 (about $1,550).

In 2025, the Russian army contracted 400,000 OF25 rounds. These are the standard rounds for 152-mm howitzers such as the towed D-20 and the self-propelled 2S3 Akatsiya.

The rounds were ordered exclusively in a configuration with a full propellant charge. Their price was RUB 104,000, or about $1,300 per round.
