The Ukrainian tech startup Himera has already delivered 6,000 tactical radios to the military and is offering its own ecosystem, designed to seamlessly integrate with the existing network of military radios and situational awareness systems.
During a demonstration of their systems’ capabilities, company representatives shared this update with a Militarnyi correspondent.
“We are currently producing up to 1,000 radios per month, with the capacity to scale quickly to 2,500 units. For large-scale orders, we are prepared to supply 10,000 to 15,000 radios per month,” the developers explained.
Recently, the company presented its flagship product – the G1 Pro radio station, along with an ecosystem of repeaters and other equipment, all of which have been tested in conditions simulating combat environments.
Oleksii Oliynyk, the company’s co-founder, explained that for their radios, the developers selected the component base and manufacturing processes in such a way as to enable a rapid increase in production capacity. The company has diversified its supply sources to ensure that production rates are not affected by risks or potential supply restrictions.
Each product supports all advanced features for low probability of detection, interception, and jamming (AES-256 encryption, mesh/MANET network configuration, pseudo-random frequency hopping).
Himera positions its radios as a product that will complement Motorola and Harris’s widely used military radios rather than compete with them. To achieve this, the developers have created a solution that allows their products to be integrated into third-party networks.
The Himera G1 Pro can simultaneously provide voice communication and data transmission – such as GPS coordinates, messages, and markers for display in battlefield reconnaissance and coordination systems like Combat Vision 4.0 and Kropyva.
“We are presenting a range of products to help reach the battalion or brigade level. Currently, we are preparing to launch products that will allow radio communication to be relayed over the internet, as well as relay data to situational awareness systems,” the developers state.
Another key feature of the Himera communication system is the shift from using high-power communication repeaters to a network of low-power repeaters:
“We don’t use high-power repeaters that emit at 50 watts and require tall towers and constant power supply. We understand that the enemy has long been aware of all the heights and prime locations where these repeaters can be placed, and maintaining them puts personnel at risk. That’s why we chose a different approach and offer a low-power repeater that can operate autonomously for two weeks without any intervention. Its price is so low that you can forget about it after use. Instead of lighting up a sector like a ‘spotlight,’ we place many small repeaters that form a decentralized communication network.”
Militarnyi previously reported that HIMERA, a Ukrainian company specializing in developing and producing tactical communication systems, partnered with Quantropi, a leader in quantum technologies. HIMERA and Quantropi Inc. announced an exclusive agreement to integrate quantum-secure solutions into a variety of tactical radios, including G1 PRO, R1 repeaters, standalone B1s, and E1 internet extenders.
