The Ukrainian HIMARS rocket system destroyed two Russian 2S9 Nona-S self-propelled mortars in the Donetsk region.

The video on the issue was published on social media.

Ukrainian military used a reconnaissance drone to discover in the Donetsk region the enemy’s position with two Russian self-propelled mortars. Those mortars were firing at Ukrainian positions.

After the target was recognized, it was struck with a Ukrainian precision weapon by two artillery installations.

After the first hit and defeat of one of the artillery systems, the next crew tried to escape, but they failed due to the almost instant income of the next rocket.

The fact that the systems were struck with the help of HIMARS can be verified using the freeze frame of the video, which shows the exact hit of the guided rocket at the target.

The site of the defeat of enemy mortar installations was geolocated on the outskirts of Donetsk, 7-8 kilometers from the line of contact.

Russian self-propelled mortars fired at their maximum firing range, a significant distance in the rear. However, this did not help them avoid disclosing their positions.

Recall that recently, as part of the counter-battery warfare, the Ukrainian military managed to destroy a very rare target – BM-30 Smerch multiple rocket launcher. For all the time since the Russian invasion, this is only the second such loss of Russians.

Nona-S

The 2S9 Nona self-propelled mortar is designed to close fire support airborne units on the battlefield. The main weapon of the system is a 120mm gun-mortar.

Based on the chassis of the BMD-1, the mortar has high maneuverability and is capable of aiming fire without prior preparation from indirect fire positions. In addition, if necessary, the self-propelled mortars are able to fire directly as an SP assault gun.
