The Ukrainian military hit the Russian Tyulpan 240mm self-propelled mortar in the Donbas.
The video of the strike was published by the press service of the Khortytsia operational-strategic group in its Telegram channel, Khortytsky_wind.
Judging by the footage, the firing position on which the Russian Tyulpan was deployed, was discovered by Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance.
After determining the coordinates, the military hit the invaders’ 240mm self-propelled mortar with a precision munition.
A reconnaissance drone monitored the Tyulpan throughout, recording an exact strike on the target on video.
Probably, the strike was carried out with the American HIMARS, which are in service with the Ukrainian troops.
The strike caused a propellant charge to explode, which is meant to fire a 240mm mortar round. This explosion at least damaged the Tyulpan.
Additionally, the crew of the Russian self-propelled mortar was struck, and the invaders may have been killed.
In the Russian-Ukrainian war, the invaders use these mortars mainly to destroy the most fortified positions. The Ukrainian military destroyed or disabled several dozen such enemy artillery systems.
2S4 Tyulpan 240mm self-propelled mortar is designed to destroy fortifications, manpower and enemy equipment with conventional and special (nuclear) ammunition. For rough guidance in the vertical plane (setting the sight) and loading the mortar, a hydraulic system is used.
The main ammunition of the mortar includes 53-F-864 high-explosive mortar round with a maximum range of 9.65 km, as well as 3F2 rocket-assisted round with a maximum range of 19.69 km.
The invaders also use 3F5 laser-guided high-precision rounds from the 1K113 system with 2S4 Tyulpan mortars.
