The German Hensoldt has handed over the first TRML-4D high-performance radar to Ukraine.
This is stated in the company’s official report.
In total, the company is supplying four of its high-performance radars in record time for Diehl Defence’s IRIS-T SLM air defence system.
Hensoldt’s TRML-4D radar is the primary means of detecting the IRIS-T SLM battery.
The battery also includes several self-propelled launchers and a fire control center.
The transfer of the radar is taking place within the framework of the order received from Diehl Defense for an amount calculated in a two-digit million euro sum.
According to Thomas Müller, CEO of Hensoldt, the company is able to deliver such systems to protect the population in the shortest possible time due to a serial production line.
Developed in 2018, the TRML-4D is a C-band mobile multi-functional medium-range radar.
German radar is capable of detecting, tracking and classifying various types of aerial targets, with a focus on small, fast and low-flying and/or manoeuvring cruise missiles.
The TRML-4D uses the state-of-the-art AESA (Active Electronically. Scanned Array) technology, based on GaN (gallium nitride) solid state transmitters.
AESA provides digital formation of a multi-beam pattern.
The system allows simultaneous detection and tracking of up to 1,500 different targets at ranges from 0.01 to 250 km. The maximum height of detection reaches 30 km.
Fighter jets and supersonic missiles can be escorted at a distance of up to 150 km and 60 km, respectively.
The radar is equipped with “friend-or-foe” recognition systems, detection and jamming of obstacles.
TRML-4D is mounted on a 8×8 chassis, and can be transported by A400M and C-130 aircraft.
In addition to the TRML-4D multi-functional radar, the company’s portfolio also includes the Twinvis passive radar, the Spexer line, and maritime and air traffic safety radars.
Hensoldt supplies radars for the German Navy’s new frigates and corvettes, as well as the German Air Force for airspace surveillance.
Hensoldt’s solutions are compatible with the architecture of the NATO air defense system and do not depend on foreign technologies.
As previously reported, on October 12, 2022, the command of the German Armed Forces announced the transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the first IRIS-T SLM medium-range anti-aircraft missile system manufactured by the Diehl Defense.
The maximum range of hitting targets with this air defense system is 40 km, the maximum height is 20 km.
