Hamas officials have formally informed the U.S. Special Envoy Steven Witkoff and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner that they are terminating the current ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
Al-Hadath reported on this, citing its own sources.
According to the outlet, Hamas rejected a situation in which the terms of the ceasefire were defined too narrowly. Representatives of the movement stressed that “Gaza is not Lebanon” and said they were prepared to resume fighting.
Meanwhile, it is emphasized that, in Hamas’s view, the ceasefire must be “mutual,” and that Israel must also fulfill its obligations.
They additionally stated that they are prepared for a new phase of the conflict if their key demands – an end to aggression, the withdrawal of occupying forces, and the protection of the rights of the Palestinian population – are not met.
The announcement regarding the termination of the existing agreements came amid a difficult stage of diplomatic negotiations, which have long been coordinated with the involvement of mediators – Qatar, Egypt, and the United States – particularly in the context of prisoner exchanges and the reconstruction of Gaza.
Militarnyi previously reported that Israeli forces said they had executed artillery and air strikes on targets in the southern part of Gaza in response to a violation of the ceasefire and a Hamas attack on Israeli soldiers.
