Russia used a guided bomb to strike the Poltava region for the first time.

The bomb landed 20-30 kilometers from Poltava, according to sources in military circles who spoke with Militarnyi.

The strike was likely carried out with either a jet-powered UMPB-5R or a Grom-E1/E2 bomb, with a range of approximately 120 kilometers.

The first instances of guided bombs with jet engines were recorded from late spring to early summer of 2025.

Nevertheless, the use of such bombs remains infrequent. Their deployment may indicate Russia’s combat testing and further development of this capability.

On the evening of October 18, Russian aviation used a guided bomb of a new modification for the first time on the city of Lozova in the Kharkiv region.

According to preliminary data from the prosecutor’s office, the strike was carried out with a UMPB-5R bomb, which has a range of approximately 130 kilometers.
