The Greek Navy’s HS Psara frigate has destroyed a Houthi attack drone with a 127mm gun in the Red Sea.
The corresponding video of the destruction was published on the official page of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
The published video, which was filmed aboard the Dutch frigate HNLMS Karel Doorman, shows the destruction of a Houthi attack UAV with a Mk 45 Mod 2A 127mm gun.
It should be noted that the Mk 45 gun is equipped with 127mm proximity fuse rounds for air targets.
According to the Royal Netherlands Navy, the drone was intercepted while escorting a merchant ship.
The radar station of the HS Psara frigate detected an aerial target at a short range, after which it was decided to immediately neutralize the object by firing the ship’s main automatic universal gun.
The video also shows the neutralization of the second attack drone, which went off its course due to the ship’s new radar anti-drone system.
The Red Sea is the site of an international maritime operation to escort and protect merchant ships that are constantly under the sights of the pro-Iranian terrorist organization Houthi.
Previously, Militarnyi reported that in March 2024, the Alsace guided-missile frigate intercepted three anti-ship ballistic missiles in the Red Sea, which were launched by the Houthis from Yemen.
It happened on the morning of March 21, 2024, when the French Navy Alsace frigate was patrolling in the southern part of the Red Sea.
During Operation ASPIDES, the frigate escorted civilian vessels and provided air defense in the region.
In total, three anti-ship ballistic missiles were launched from Yemen, which the frigate successfully intercepted using Aster 30 anti-aircraft missiles.
