Greece will continue to provide defense assistance to Ukraine under the Ramstein.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, who arrived in Greece on a visit, voiced this.
During the visit of the Defense Minister of Ukraine to Greece, the country promised to provide military assistance to Ukraine “as much as necessary.”
However, officials have warned that the country needs to keep weapons for its own defense needs.
“Greece will provide all possible assistance to Ukraine at this very important, decisive stage of the war. We will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary – this is a very clear position that we have taken from the very beginning,” Greek Defense Minister Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos said.
Oleksii Reznikov thanked Greece for the transferred BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles and ammunition.
Greece is also said to have provided instructors for Ukrainian special forces and tank operators as part of a massive military aid effort led by the United States and its allies.
It should be noted that on the eve of Reznikov’s visit, Panagiotopoulos spoke in the Greek parliament and declared that Greece would not provide any military aid that could jeopardize its own defense.
Therefore, Ukraine will not receive German-made Leopard 2 tanks, the minister noted.
“There are rumors that we will send fighter jets, and S-300, and this, and that. For God’s sake. We give what we can give, but nothing that will even slightly weaken our defense capabilities in view of our national security challenges,” the Greek defense minister said at the time.
At the same time, Reznikov noted that Greece offered assistance to Ukraine for better integration of its military fleet into NATO standards.
“After this war, after Ukraine’s victory in this war, we, together with our partners, will continue to develop our defense capabilities,” added Reznikov.
