The British Army has ordered 600 missiles for Javelin man-portable anti-tank systems.
The U.S. Department of State has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale of these weapons.
The Javelin FGM-148F missiles, which has a multi-purpose warhead will be delivered.
The proposed sale will improve the British Army’s capability to meet current and future threats.
The website of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency noted that the Government of the United Kingdom has requested to buy up to six hundred (600) Javelin FGM-148F missiles.
The potential sale also includes logistics support and technical assistance.
The estimated value of the anti-tank missile order is $125.13 million.
Javelin ATGM is a portable anti-tank missile system of the third generation, produced by the US Raytheon and Lockheed Martin.
Javelin is a fire-and-forget missile. It is in service with the Armed Forces of the United States and a number of other countries.
The system is designed to destroy armored vehicles and air targets at low altitudes (helicopters, UAVs).
The FGM-148 Javelin ATGM missile has a thermal homing head, thus, the operator of the missile system does not need to monitor and adjust the flight of the missile after launch while it is approaching the target.
In May 2020, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin completed the creation of the first batch of the new FGM-148F Javelin anti-tank missile system. The characteristic feature of this model is the presence of a multirole warhead. It allows dealing with heavy armored vehicles that are protected by dynamic protection, and with lightly armored targets or infantry.
