Great Britain will expand the training program for the Ukrainian soldiers – from now on they will be studying longer.
Sky News reported about this.
The combat course is being extended in duration from three weeks to five.
Most of the training will be held in the UK, away from the threat of Russian missile strikes.
Around 4,700 Ukrainian servicemen have already undergone the training at British military bases since it launched in June.
The United Kingdom plans to continue supporting the Defense Forces of Ukraine as long as our country needs more professionally trained soldiers to fight a full-scale Russian invasion.
“The training course has developed rapidly, and we are now extending it to five weeks to provide the best possible preparation for Ukrainian soldiers who will soon be in active combat operations,” British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said.
Military instructors from eight other countries have joined with their British counterparts to provide the expanded training mission for Ukrainians.
These are instructors from New Zealand, Sweden, the Netherlands, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Lithuania.
The offered basic course is grounded on the UK’s basic infantry training. It includes weapons-handling, battlefield first aid, fieldcraft and patrol tactics.
The extra two weeks will allow for more advanced training. Military personnel will be taught the specifics of trench and urban warfare, as well as vehicle-mounted operations. The program also includes battlefield exercises in simulated combat environments.
As previously reported, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson declared the allocation of a new £54 million military aid package to Ukraine during his unannounced visit to Kyiv on August 24.
