Germany would want to train a full-fledged brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of up to 5,000 soldiers by spring.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced this during his Bundestag speech.
The training will take place under the European Union’s mission to train Ukrainian military personnel.
“Germany wants to prepare a full-fledged Ukrainian brigade counting up to 5,000 people by spring,” said the Head of the German government.
According to Olaf Scholz, in this way, Germany emphasizes its readiness to participate in the long-term development of strong Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Chancellor announced that one of the two headquarters of the training mission of the European Union for the Ukrainian servicemen will be stationed in Germany. Another one will be located in neighboring Poland.
At the beginning of the week, the European Union approved the development of a training military mission for Ukraine. The decision was made at the EU Council of Foreign Ministers meeting on October 17. The mission should start in mid-November.
The European Union confirmed the implementation of its plans to train up to 15,000 Ukrainian military personnel as part of a new training mission on the territory of various EU countries.
It is planned that 12,000 soldiers of the Defense Forces will receive basic training, and approximately 2,800 will undergo a special course.
Instead of a single training center in the European Union countries, separate training courses by specialty should be organized.
Poland will be one of the countries whose territory will host the training of the Ukrainian military under this mission. France will conduct training for 2,000 Ukrainian soldiers.
On October 17, the European Union allocated €500 more million to support the capabilities and resilience of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This assistance will be provided through the European Peace Fund. The total contribution of the European Union within the fund framework will reach €3.1 billion.
