In 2024, Germany will provide Ukraine with military goods worth more than seven billion euros.
The German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated this in his post on X (ex-Twitter).
Scholz made this statement during a telephone conversation with U.S. President Joseph Biden on January 16. The leaders discussed the situation in the Middle East and support for Ukraine.
The Chancellor and the President agreed that they wanted to continue to provide financial, humanitarian, and military assistance to Ukraine.
White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby also confirmed the conversation during his briefing.
“The President spoke today with Chancellor Scholz in the framework of our close coordination, of course, with Germany on a number of important issues. And this, of course, includes support for Ukraine and the importance of this support,” he noted.
In early January, Militarnyi reported an increase in military assistance from Germany.
The new package included ammunition, missiles for air defense systems, along with the Skynex short-range anti-aircraft system.
The list of weapons that Berlin handed over to Kyiv also included an undeclared amount of ammunition for Leopard 2A6 tanks.
In general, the German defense aid package included:
In addition, 1,152 winter camouflage nets and two thousand winter camouflage ponchos were provided.
Last December, it was announced that Germany would transfer more Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine than previously reported.
According to the updated list of assistance, the country has financed or already handed over 120 Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Out of these 120 units, 40 infantry fighting vehicles were transferred from the warehouses of the Rheinmetall defense concern and have undergone appropriate repairs.
