Germany intends to supply Ukraine with Mars II multiple rocket launchers from the Bundeswehr depots.
European Pravda reported about this.
According to sources within the German government, this regards the Mars II multiple rocket launchers manufactured by the German company Krauss-Maffei-Wegmann.
As per reports, four self-propelled rocket launchers might be transferred.
Mars II MLRS (Mittlere Artillerie Raketen System) is a German multiple rocket launcher adopted by the Bundeswehr in 1990.
This launcher is basically a licensed copy of the American M270 MLRS with minor modifications.
The artillery unit of Mars II consists of two disposable units, each of which houses six transport and launch containers with 240 mm caliber rocket-propelled ammunition. Targets can be hit at a maximum distance of 45,000 – 70,000 m, depending on the ammunition.
Mars II is designed to destroy clusters of enemy manpower and equipment, artillery batteries, air defenses, command posts, and communications, as well as to set up the minefields through remote mining.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz states the upcoming supply of the IRIS-T air defense systems along with the tracking radar which is capable of detecting enemy howitzers, mortars, and rocket artillery to Ukraine.
Scholz also rejected criticism by the opposition that Germany was too reluctant to supply heavy weapons to Ukraine.
According to Scholz, Germany has already delivered to Ukraine anti-tank and portable anti-aircraft missile systems, over 15 million rounds of ammunition, hundreds of thousands of hand grenades, and 5,000 anti-tank mines.
It was previously reported that Germany plans to ship the first Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled guns to Ukraine in July 2022.
