Today, on September 19, the German government has provided Ukraine with a new major military aid package.

This is stated in a press release published on the website of the German government.

The military aid package includes 22 Leopard 1A5 tanks and three Cheetah self-propelled anti-aircraft guns (Gepard).

The Cheetah self-propelled anti-aircraft gun is a Dutch version of the German Gepard, which features a radar station and an updated fire control system.

Full list of the military aid package from Germany includes:

  • 22 Leopard 1A5 tanks;
  • 3 Cheetah (Gepard) self-propelled anti-aircraft guns;
  • 22 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAP);
  • 2 TRML-4D air surveillance radar;
  • 5 Bandvagn 206 tracked all-terrain vehicles;
  • 8 Zetros tankers;
  • 6 WISENT 1 mine clearing tanks;
  • 30 VECTOR reconnaissance drones;
  • 20 RQ-35 reconnaissance drone;
  • 20 Sonobot 5 USVs;
  • 12 SONGBIRD reconnaissance drones;
  • 6 Hornet XR drones;

The Ukrainian military received a total of 80 Leopard 1A5 tanks from Germany.

The transferred TRML-4D air surveillance radars are designed to work with the German IRIS-T air defense system.

The system is capable of detecting various airborne targets, including cruise missiles, as well as planes and helicopters maneuvering or flying at low altitudes. The radar provides fast detection and tracking of about 1,500 targets within a radius of up to 250 km.

The transferred Cheetah (Gepard) self-propelled anti-aircraft guns are capable of shooting down Russian drones and cruise missiles.

It is also worth noting the transfer of Sonobot 5 unmanned surface vehicles, which are mainly used for three-dimensional mapping.

The USV can be used during search operations to detect objects that pose a threat to human safety and infrastructure.

In early September, it was reported that Germany will provide Ukraine with 12 additional PzH-2000 self-propelled howitzers in 2024-2025.
