Germany plans to purchase three HIMARS rocket systems for Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense of the Federal Republic of Germany reported on this.
The weapons will be provided to the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of military assistance.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, on a working visit to Washington, said that the delivery of the systems would take place in cooperation with the United States.
“I can confirm that we will transfer three HIMARS rocket systems to Ukraine in cooperation with the Americans,” Pistorius told reporters.
The minister also emphasized the importance of cooperation between Europe and the United States and other NATO allies in supporting Ukraine as it confronts the Russian invasion.
The M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) is mounted on the chassis of the M1140 FMTV six-wheeled tactical truck.
The launcher can be used as a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) with high-precision ammunition of various ranges or as an operational and tactical missile system for launching the M57 ATACMS short-range ballistic missile at a distance of up to 300 km.
HIMARS is designed to target locations of artillery systems, air and fire support, cargo transport, combat vehicles, and armored personnel carriers, and to provide fire support.
Previously, Armin Papperger, Rheinmetall CEO, said that Rheinmetall would hand over prototypes of shells with a range of 100 km to Ukraine.
The German company Hensoldt will supply Ukraine with 6 more TRML-4D air surveillance radars to strengthen the country’s air defense.
The customer is the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and the payment is made by the German government as part of military assistance. The cost of purchasing six TRML-4D radars is more than €100 million.
