The German Armed Forces plan to purchase more than 200 of the latest RCH 155 wheeled self-propelled howitzers.
Hartpunkt reported on this.
According to well-informed sources, the military intends to order 229 howitzers of this model.
It is expected that next week, the Budget Committee and the Bundestag’s Defense Committee will discuss the proposal and allocate approximately EUR 3.4 billion.
Deliveries of the artillery systems are expected between 2028 and 2032.
In October, the German Army formed a new 215th Artillery Battalion within the 21st Tank Brigade.
It will be the first in the brigade and in the armed forces to receive the modern 155 mm RCH 155 howitzers.
Structurally, the battalion will follow the standard organization of artillery units and will consist of three batteries equipped with the self-propelled howitzers, as well as a support battery responsible for the unit’s logistics.
Ukraine will become the first user of the latest German RCH 155 self-propelled howitzers.
The RCH 155 is built on the chassis of the GTK Boxer wheeled armored personnel carrier with an 8×8 wheel configuration. The system features an automated AGM turreted artillery module equipped with the artillery components of the German PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzer.
The AGM module is unmanned, so the RCH 155 has a crew of only two people. The AGM module carries 30 rounds of ammunition. The vehicle’s total combat weight is 39 tonnes, while the AGM module itself weighs 12.5 tonnes.
The system is equipped with an 815 hp MTU diesel engine. According to the manufacturer, its firing range is 40 km, up to 52 km with V-LAP rounds. The howitzer is also capable of employing long‑range VULCANO and EXCALIBUR munitions.
