The German government will allocate funds to purchase 180,000 artillery shells for Ukraine under the Czech initiative.

Reuters reported on this, citing a representative of the German Defense Ministry.

Germany will provide €576 million to cover the cost of this number of shells.

Thus, Germany will account for 40% of the initiative’s contributions, the German ministry said, without providing any other details.

In March, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced a €478 million military aid package to Ukraine.

At the same time, he announced that Germany would support Ukraine with 180,000 rounds of artillery shells as a contribution to a Czech-led plan to buy ammunition for Ukraine.

However, back then, this referred to about €500 million. And now, according to Reuters, it is already €576 million.

As previously reported, the Czech government officials managed to locate about 1 million artillery shells for Ukraine, including 500,000 155-mm artillery shells and 300,000 122-mm shells abroad.

Subsequently, the Czech Republic reported that it had located an additional 200,000 shells, but did not provide details on the caliber of the shells or other details.

At the end of March, the media reported that over 15 countries had raised approximately €1.8 billion under the Czech initiative, which was immediately used to pay for artillery ammunition. The first deliveries to Ukraine are expected to take place in April.

This amount will be enough to supply Ukrainian artillery for several months of active combat operations.

At the same time, European countries are expanding their own production of shells, as they understand the importance of supplying them to Ukraine and their own armed forces.
