TAURUS Systems, a joint venture between MBDA and SAAB, secured a contract to prepare a production line for the manufacture of TAURUS NEO cruise missiles.
MBDA announced this in a press release.
The company stated that the contract will enable the establishment of large-scale production of these cruise missiles in Germany.
“MBDA has always been committed to delivering decisive capabilities that ensure European sovereignty. With TAURUS NEO, Germany is deliberately strengthening its most advanced deep-strike capabilities, making a critically important contribution to the deterrence capabilities of Europe and NATO,” Thomas Gottschild, MBDA Group Executive Director for Strategy, shared.
It is noted that MBDA has already started working on developing new technologies under the TAURUS maintenance and modernization contract awarded in December 2024. This will ensure the fastest possible readiness of the first systems.
In addition, the new contract covers further development of new and advanced capabilities, as well as the expansion of cruise missile production capacity. Overall, Germany is believed to be planning to procure 600 TAURUS NEO missiles worth €2.1 billion.
Overall, the company plans to invest €2.4 billion between 2025 and 2029 to ensure a ramp-up of missile production in the coming years.
