German military personnel ended their reconnaissance mission in Greenland earlier than planned and returned to Germany due to deteriorating weather conditions.
Journalist Moritz J. Müller reported about this on X.
According to the report, the deployment of the German military contingent to the island had been scheduled to take place from January 15 to 17.
It was later reported that the mission had been extended by one additional day to conduct a familiarization visit.
However, due to adverse weather conditions, the visit was canceled, and the return flight took place on January 18.
Meanwhile, information had previously circulated online suggesting that the German troops had departed hastily and without justification. However, it later became clear that these reports were not accurate.
A spokesperson for the German command and control center stated that the group had fully completed its assigned tasks and that the results of the reconnaissance mission would be analyzed in the coming days.
As previously reported, Germany deployed 15 service members to Nuuk.
Denmark and several European countries have begun deploying a demonstration contingent aimed at strengthening the Alliance’s presence on the island.
Units for the mission were sent by Germany, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, and France. At the same time, politicians in Berlin called for the deployment of a full-fledged European brigade.
Poland ruled out the possibility of participating in such a format.
Meanwhile, Estonia stated its readiness to take part in the deployment.
