Germany has deployed two batteries of the Patriot air defense system in Poland.

The Bundeswehr announced this on its official Facebook page.

The batteries were deployed to strengthen the air defense of NATO countries and protect one of Ukraine’s largest logistics centers, located in Poland.

For this purpose, two batteries were allocated from the 21 Surface-to-Air Missile Group of the German Air Force, based in the city of Sanitz, in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen.

A week ago, Germany shipped the Patriot air defense systems to Poland on its own a week ago, along with 200 military personnel who will be responsible for operating and guarding the systems. According to the plan, the German battery’s deployment will provide cover for important areas in southeastern Poland for six months.

“We will be defending the logistics hub in Poland, which is key to the supply of materials to Ukraine. In this way, we are ensuring the supply of vehicles, weapons, and ammunition that Ukraine urgently needs to repel Russia’s illegal and brutal attacks,” Boris Pistorius, German Minister of Defense, stated.

According to the photos provided, Patriot PAC-3 systems with MIM-104F missile launchers, which are capable of effectively countering short-range ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, were delivered to Poland.

It is noteworthy that Germany has previously deployed anti-aircraft units from the 21st Air Defense Missile Group from Sanitz and the 24th Group from Bad Sulza in Poland.

These systems strengthened Poland’s air defense for 11 months in 2023.

They were deployed near the town of Zamość, southeast of Warsaw, near a transshipment station through which civilian and military cargo is delivered to Ukraine.

Militarnyi previously reported that in addition to Germany, Norway also sent its anti-aircraft systems to protect the logistics center. In December 2024, Norway deployed the NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system at Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport.

Norway has also deployed its F-35 fighter jets to Poland, with a total of 100 Norwegian military personnel on duty. The mission is expected to last until Easter.
