Raytheon has been awarded a $478 million contract to supply GEM-T missiles to the German Patriot air defense system.
This was reported by the company’s press service.
It is reported that the contract was signed with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), the missiles are intended to replenish German stocks after the transfer of anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine.
The company has informed that Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway have agreed to participate in the financing of this purchase.
“Our customers are already realizing the benefits of integrated, multinational procurement of Patriot missiles through NSPA, including affordability and a pre-negotiated contract structure that reduces procurement time,” stated Tom Laliberti, president of Raytheon’s Land and Air Defense Systems business.
On July 12, Militarnyi reported that the German Ministry of Defense is ordering additional Patriot air defense missile systems.
As part of the signed contract worth $1.2 billion, Germany will receive additional launchers and radar stations from the air defense missile system.
The additional systems will allow Germany to expand its existing fleet of air defense systems and replace those systems that were transferred to Ukraine.
As part of the contract, Germany will receive the latest Patriot Configuration 3+ radars, launchers, command stations, spare parts and support.
In early July, it was reported that Ukraine had received the third Patriot anti-aircraft missile system from Germany as part of military assistance.
Germany announced the transfer of this Patriot system in April.
This decision was made by the German government to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense in response to the increasing number of Russian air strikes and missile attacks on Ukraine.
