Germany and Slovenia continue working to progress in negotiations to provide Ukraine with heavy equipment.

This regards the so-called circular exchange, which means that Slovenia will transfer its equipment to Ukraine, and Germany will replace it with its own weapons.

This was discussed at the negotiations between Olaf Scholz, German Chancellor, and Robert Golob, Slovenian Prime Minister, Ukrinform reports.

“We discussed the issue of the joint transfer of weapons to Ukraine… We are considering various options to resolve the situation,” Golob said.

He noted that Slovenia had already shipped a batch of heavy weapons to Ukraine. However, the further process was “somewhat delayed”, partly due to the change of government in the country. The Prime Minister expects the process to speed up.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz, for his part, also expressed the belief that the countries “will achieve rapid progress together.” He pointed out the readiness of partners to comprehensively support Ukraine, specifically politically, economically, humanitarianly, militarily, and with the help of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

As previously reported, in June, Slovenia handed over 35 M80A infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine.

There was also a plan to transfer 30 T-72 tanks to Ukraine. To replace that, Slovenia would receive new equipment from Germany. However, Berlin offered only 15 Leopard-2A4 tanks. Negotiations were ongoing for over two months.

It was reported that the Ministry of Defense of Spain gave the green light to the transfer of 10 Leopard 2A4 tanks and 20 M113 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.
