Germany and Canada will allocate additional funds to purchase American weapons for the Ukrainian Defense Forces under the PURL program.
European Pravda reported on this.
Before the NATO ministerial meeting in Brussels, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said that Canada’s new contribution would amount to $200 million.
“I am pleased to announce that Canada, along with other allies, will purchase a package of military capabilities under the PURL program, which is NATO’s military support mechanism for Ukraine,” Anand said.
She specified that the country’s contribution to this military assistance package will be $200 million, bringing Canada’s total contribution to $890 million.
At the same time, German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul announced an additional $200 million for the supply of American weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, Welt reports.
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius had already announced most of this amount – EUR 150 million – in mid-November.
On July 14, the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List initiative was launched by agreement between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Donald Trump, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
The mechanism provides that NATO member states and partners can finance the supply of American weapons and technology to Ukraine through voluntary contributions.
The program creates a priority list of needed weapons and ammunition based on Ukrainian requests.
This approach enables coordinated contributions, faster procurement, and quicker delivery of equipment and materials to the front lines, which European counterparts cannot match.
In early December, the Dutch Minister of Defense announced that the government had allocated EUR 250 million to supply air defense equipment and ammunition to Ukrainian F-16 fighter jets under the PURL program.
