In the Moscow region, the deputy head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces was killed in an explosion.
The Russian Mash Telegram channel reported on this.
Russian Major General Yaroslav Moskalik lost his life when an improvised explosive device planted in his car detonated.
A Volkswagen Golf, parked near a building, exploded around 10:40 a.m. The blast, intensified by the detonation of the car’s gas cylinder equipment, was so powerful that the victim was thrown several meters away.
In addition to the car’s explosive equipment, other components of the explosive device may have included rounds for a VOG-25 underbarrel grenade launcher.
It is reported that the explosive device could have been triggered remotely when the officer, who had lived in the same area, had approached.
A year before the explosion, the car was sold several times and had at least three owners, who could have converted the gasoline vehicle to run on gas equipment.
The previous owner of the car sold it to a 29-year-old citizen of Azerbaijan. Almost immediately, the new owner resold the vehicle to a 26-year-old Andrii P., who claims that within a week, he resold the foreign car to 40-year-old Ihnat K., a native of the Ukrainian city of Sumy.
Last year, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the Chief of Russia’s Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops, was killed in an explosion in Moscow.
The explosion occurred at around 6 a.m. local time on Tuesday, December 17, near a residential building on Ryazansky Prospekt in Moscow, as Kirillov and his assistant were exiting the building. According to the investigation, the explosive device was planted in an electric scooter that was parked near the entrance.
As a result of the explosion in the building itself, the entrance door was blown off, and windows in the apartments from the first to the fourth floor were smashed.
On the eve of the explosion, the Security Service of Ukraine reported that it had served a notice of suspicion to the Russian general who ordered the use of chemical weapons against the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
