U.S. president-elect Donald Trump does not intend to stop military aid to Ukraine, according to the Financial Times.

FT notes that Trump’s intention to continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine was stated by three unnamed sources.

Such a move will be supported by other Western countries, according to FT, which are deeply concerned about their ability to support and defend Ukraine without Washington’s support.

The newspaper reported that in early December, senior British officials traveled to Washington to learn about Trump’s plans for Ukraine.

After the visit, they said that the U.S. president-elect is against Ukraine’s accession to NATO and wants the war to end.

But, at the same time, he believes that supplying Kyiv with weapons after a ceasefire will ensure “peace through strength.”

The two sources also stated that Trump wants to demand that NATO countries more than double their defense spending.

Currently, the Alliance countries are required to allocate 2% of GDP per year for defense, but the president-elect wants to increase this figure to 5%.

Notably, only 23 out of 32 NATO members allocate 2% of GDP to defense.

As a reminder, Donald Trump assured that he wants a quick end to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

In particular, he promised to end the war within the first 24 hours of his presidency.

According to Donald Trump, Russia has lost 600,000 troops in the war with Ukraine.
