In Dnipro, the SSU detained an agent of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation who was disguised as a Ukrainian military officer to spy on the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine on Monday.

The counterintelligence of the SSU conducted a multi-stage special operation that resulted in the detention of a Russian FSB agent in Dnipro.

He collected intelligence on the movements of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units involved in the counteroffensive in the eastern part of the Russian-Ukrainian war front.

To disguise his reconnaissance and subversive activities, the man dressed in the uniform of Ukrainian defenders.

It is noted that the Russian agent’s special attention was focused on the routes of railway trains with equipment, weapons and ammunition of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

He also tried to identify Ukrainian air defense positions near the regional capital.

To collect intelligence, the suspect regularly traveled around the city, taking pictures of Ukrainian objects. The Russian agent transmitted the obtained data to his FSB “curator” via messenger in the form of text messages and media files.

“The man received a monetary reward from the Russian special service for each completed task. To conceal the financing channels, he received funds to his bank card through cryptocurrency transactions,” the SSU said in a statement.

It is reported that SSU officers detained a Russian agent while he was performing a Russian task near one of the strategic facilities in Dnipro. During the searches, they found a cell phone with evidence of correspondence with the aggressor, as well as ammunition for automatic weapons.

The SSU investigators served the offender a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code (high treason committed under martial law). The issue of additional qualification of his criminal actions under Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) is being decided upon.

The man is currently in custody, facing life imprisonment.
