The French Ministry of Defense uncovered the details of the order for dozens of Caesar howitzers and announced the transfer of AASM bombs.
The news was published on the Department’s official website.
This Thursday, January 18, French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu, together with his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov, founded the Artillery Coalition.
The new initiative aims to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with the necessary means in the short and long term.
Within the project, the plan is to purchase 78 Caesar ACS, which should be manufactured in 2024.
It is assumed that each of the countries participating in the coalition will contribute to the financing of the project. Thus, France will use 50 million euros from its Support Fund of Ukraine to order 12 out of 78 howitzers. Ukraine funded the production of 6 more ACS.
“What remains is to fund 60 more. This is a call that I pass on to all allies as part of our cooperation in the Ramstein format,” Sebastien Lecornu stated.
The Minister also noted that France will deliver the first six Caesars in the coming weeks, and will also be able to manufacture the next 72 units during 2024.
The MoD message also publicly announces the delivery of several hundred AASM guided aircraft missiles for the first time. Militarnyi previously discussed their possible receipt and characteristics.
From January 2024, Paris will be delivering about 50 guided bombs every month until the end of the year, Lecornu shared. Most likely, Ukraine will receive their 227-kilogram version with the Hammer-250 kit, but there is a larger version weighing 907 kg.
They will complement the American JDAM-ER bombs, already used by the Ukrainian Air Force.
Previously, France also announced the delivery of 40 new SCALP EG aircraft cruise missiles to Ukraine.
