France will continue supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, including with regard to the supply of weapons.
French President Emmanuel Macron stated this to his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky during a phone call, the Elysee Palace reported.
Emmanuel Macron told Volodymyr Zelensky that the arms supplies from France to Ukraine would increase in intensity.
“Macron confirmed that weapon deliveries from France would continue and would increase in intensity in the days and weeks to come, the same goes for the supply of humanitarian equipment,” the statement said.
The French President also reaffirmed his full determination to respond to all requests for support raised by Ukraine, including requests for defense equipment, fuel, humanitarian aid, economic, and financial support.
Both leaders also discussed food security issues and possible ways to enable the exports of Ukrainian grains, which a great part of the world depends on for its food provision.
“The two presidents also discussed the security guarantees that France could provide Ukraine as part of an international agreement to guarantee the respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country,” the French statement said.
President Macron also confirmed to President Zelensky that Ukraine’s application for European Union membership will be considered during a European Council session in June, based on the opinion offered by the European Commission.
In April, it was reported that France would be joining the countries that are transferring 155 mm long-range artillery to Ukraine. It was announced that Ukraine will receive French 155-mm Ceaser self-propelled howitzers.
The CAESAR is a French 155-mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer developed by the GIAT Industries. Its serial production was launched in 2007. 72 units were delivered to the French army. The Renault Sherpa 5 6×6 is used as the ACS chassis for the French army.
Last month, the second batch of firefighting equipment from France arrived in Ukraine. Ukrainian rescuers received 24 rescue vehicles and 54 tonnes of equipment.
Prior to that, on March 28 – 27, France handed over the special equipment including trucks and 50 tons of equipment to Ukraine.
