France joins the countries that are transferring 155 mm long-range artillery to Ukraine.
Militarnyi informs about this.
French President Emanuel Macron mentioned that his country is handing over 155-mm Ceaser self-propelled howitzers to Kyiv.
In an interview with Ouest France, Macron said that the supplies Ukraine include a variety of weapons “from Milan (Milan ATGM – ed.) to Caesar”, and the plan is to continue doing so in the future.
An unnamed spokesman for the Elysee Palace told Ouest France journalists, that 40 Ukrainian gunners would begin training in France already on April 23.
The CAESAR is a French 155-mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer developed by the GIAT Industries. Its serial production was launched in 2007. 72 units of it were delivered to the French army.
The barrel length is 52 calibers. It is carrying 18 rounds of ammunition. The rate of fire is 6 shots per minute. Caesar is able to use the full range of NATO 155-mm artillery shells.
The Renault Sherpa 5 6×6 is used as the ACS chassis for the French army.
Interestingly, this ACS was chosen by the Czech Army during the transition to the 155 mm caliber, despite the fact that it has its own manufacturer that offers a wheeled DITA ACS (a variant of the Czech Dana ACS).
Previously, the United States, Great Britain, Canada, the Netherlands, and Germany have announced their intention to hand over the 155-mm guns and ammunition to Ukraine.
