Ukraine received from France a mobile DNA laboratory for the identification of war victims.
The laboratory was handed over by Etienne de Ponsin, Ambassador Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Ukraine.
The Office of the Prosecutor General received the lab that represents a specialized vehicle.
French experts were among the first to arrive in Ukraine to help document war crimes committed by the Russian military on Ukrainian territory.
“We are grateful to our French colleagues for their support,” Deputy Prosecutor General Maksym Yakubovskyi said.
The DNA laboratory, donated by France as humanitarian aid, is intended for the prompt resolution of the issue of detection and identification of war victims in the de-occupied territories.
Representatives of the National Gendarmerie of the French Republic trained dozen Ukrainian experts on the use of materials and equipment of this mobile DNA laboratory.
As previously reported, the Russians may face the Court in The Hague with the first war crimes case at the end of this year or at the beginning of the next.
The final date has not yet been determined, as it takes time to prepare the case.
The International Criminal Court intends to file its first case against Russian war crimes in Ukraine this winter.
It is noted that in March, a joint investigative group was created, which includes several European judicial authorities, to collect evidence of alleged Russian crimes in Ukraine.
In addition, the International Criminal Court and Ukraine are negotiating the delivery by Kyiv of at least one Russian prisoner of war official to the court. The official may be willing to testify against high-ranking Russian commanders.
