In Pärnu County, Estonia, a local resident discovered a fragment of a drone of unknown origin that had washed ashore in the Luitemaa Nature Reserve area.
ERR reported on this.
Representatives from the Estonian Internal Security Service, the police, the border guard service, and the rescue service arrived at the scene to investigate the origin of the drone parts.
The investigation is currently trying to determine how the drone ended up on Estonian territory. Two main scenarios are being considered: that it was washed ashore after falling into the sea, or that it crashed after violating the country’s airspace.
Meanwhile, the Security Service reported that the drone fragments were discovered without a warhead or any other explosive components.
Chief State Prosecutor Taavi Pern stated that the investigation is being conducted within the framework of a criminal case opened back in 2022, aimed at gathering evidence of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
It is worth noting that a similar incident recently occurred in Latvia. There, fragments of a Russian Gerbera drone were discovered on the coast, washed up on the beach of Vārve Parish in the Ventspils municipality.
