Ukraine is working to expand the area of use of the weapons transferred by its partners inside Russia.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated this at a joint briefing with Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna in Kyiv.
Kuleba stated that Ukraine’s partners had made “a very important and long-awaited step in the right direction” by lifting the ban on the use of weapons provided by them to strike military targets in Russia.
“It has its own rules that must be followed. In short, we appreciate the decision and we will continue to work with our partners to expand the area of use. Why did they impose these restrictions? My answer: I don’t know. But this is a big decision and we should respect and welcome it,” Kuleba stated.
He also mentioned that during the last two years, “small decisions are made at first, but then they develop into bigger decisions” and added that Ukraine would work on this.
Tsahkna, in his turn, said that from day one there were no restrictions on Ukraine from Estonia, because, according to international law, the country had every reason to defend itself and strike military infrastructure in Russia.
“We defend this position among our allies and discuss it during our NATO meetings. I agree with Dmytro that these steps taken by the U.S., Germany, Sweden and many other countries to lift the ban are a step in the right direction, but my position is very clear: we cannot restrict Ukraine from using long-range missiles to defend itself and cause harm to the Russian war machine,” the Minister stated.
Militarnyi previously reported that Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated that Ukraine should not face any restrictions on the use of weapons donated by Western countries.
According to the Norwegian Minister, the government believes that Ukraine may use weapons received from Western countries against military targets that are important for waging war against Ukraine.
Militarnyi previously reported that U.S. officials are trying to convince the U.S. President and his entourage to authorize the use of weapons against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Washington is facing pressure from NATO and several key European allies, one official said.
Following the launch of a new Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region, a growing number of European countries have authorized the use of their own weapons to hit targets in Russia.
First of all, major European countries, such as France and the United Kingdom, have officially confirmed that they authorize the use of Storm Shadow/SCALP EG cruise missiles for military purposes in Russian territory.
In addition to France and Canada, Finland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the Baltic States, Poland, and Sweden have authorized the use of the transferred weapons for strikes on Russian territory.
