Tests of the Barrier-V anti-tank guided missile for combat use with the Mi-8MSB-V multipurpose helicopter have been completed in Ukraine.

Militarnyi informs.

The State Research Institute for Testing and Certification of Armament and Military Equipment reported that the test team has completed the State joint tests of the prototype of the 524R system as part of the Mi-8MSB-V helicopter.

Guided missiles were launched by the flight testing personnel and according to the program and methodology of the State Research Institute for Testing and Certification of Armament and Military Equipment.

During the tests, more than 30 missiles RK-2V were launched from a distance of more than 6.5 km.

According to the Research Institute, the result of the tests was to obtain exhaustive experimental data, which after processing will provide an answer to achieve the test objective.

It is about the compliance of the main combat, technical and operational characteristics of the modernized multipurpose helicopter Mi-8MSB-V with the requirements of tactical, technical and operational characteristics of the customer.

The 524R guided anti-tank missile system consisting of the Mi-8MSB-V helicopter is designed to perform tasks of round-the-clock inspection, detection, recognition and of autotrack of ground and air moving and stationary targets, as well as for combat use of RK-2V and RK-2OF guided missiles from the helicopter.

The 524R guided weapons system with the RK-2V missile provides a tank-type target detection range of up to 10 km, and the missile itself is capable of hitting targets at a range of up to 7 km.

Barrier-V missile guided weapon system is designed to destroy ships as well as coastal moving and stationary modern armoured targets and light-armoured objects, coastal fortified firing positions and helicopters with missiles RK-2V.

Short technical specifications:

• Container length: 1917 mm
• Maximum firing range: 7500 m
• Missile control system: by laser beam with target tracking in automatic mode

The use of this ATGM was made possible due to the PM-LKT module developed by the specialists of the State Enterprise Fotoprilad, which is part of the 524R complex, which is installed on board the Mi-8MSB-V helicopter and may be installed on Mi-24 attack helicopters in the future.
