A fire broke out at the Yaroslavl oil refinery, located 700 kilometers from the state border.
The Supernova+ Telegram channel published a video of the fire.
According to the governor of the Yaroslavl region, the fire was not related to a drone attack but occurred as a result of a production process.
“The fire is of a man-made nature. Special services are already working to extinguish it,” Governor Mikhail Yevrayev wrote in his Telegram channel.
It is worth noting that previously, Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out attacks on oil refineries as part of a series of systematic strikes on Russia’s oil infrastructure, with such attacks taking place as recently as 2024. In 2022, it was reported that the refinery processed over 15 million tons of oil per year, equivalent to around 286,000 barrels per day, making it one of the largest oil refineries in Russia.
According to preliminary reports, the fire likely originated at the VT-6 unit, a key technological component of the primary oil refining facility. This particular unit is responsible for a significant portion of the output of light petroleum products, including gasoline and diesel fuel. Its shutdown could substantially impact the plant’s production capacity.
The Yaroslavl refinery holds strategic importance: it supplies fuel not only to central Russia but also provides products for military units. Damage to even a single unit could have a noticeable effect on the domestic petroleum products market.
Militarnyi previously reported that on the night of September 26, 2025, Ukrainian drones struck the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai.
