A fire broke out at the Perm Powder Plant, a major Russian defense facility specializing in the production of explosives and components for rockets and cruise missiles.

According to reports, explosions were heard, and smoke was visible on the plant’s grounds, which are part of the Rostec defense corporation.

About 50 employees evacuated the plant on their own, with no preliminary reports of fatalities or injuries.

Albert Mardanov, Acting Minister of Territorial Security for the Russian Prikamye Region, confirmed the fire but stated it no longer posed a danger. He added that the flames had been localized by 7:15 p.m.

Powder Plant

The Perm Powder Plant is one of Russia’s largest defense enterprises, specializing in the production of powders and explosives for defense needs, as well as the civilian market.

The plant produces components for more than a hundred weapons systems, in particular, ammunition for systems such as Grad and Smerch multiple-launch rocket systems, as well as anti-aircraft missiles for air defense.

The plant also manufactures components for sea-based cruise missiles, including those launched from submarines, and air-to-surface anti-ship missiles.

Last month, Militarnyi reported that a significant fire had broken out at the IPMCE, which was associated with the Russian defense industry.

The blaze occurred late in the evening on February 19, in an administrative building located on Varshavskoye Shosse in Moscow. The fire spread across an area of 1,500 sq. m, and was intensified by the explosion of gas cylinders inside the building. The roof collapsed during the incident.

Over 170 emergency personnel and 50 pieces of firefighting equipment were deployed to the scene, with a fire helicopter dropping over 400 tons of water to contain the flames.

Despite these efforts, the fire continued through the night. By 8 a.m. on February 20, the Russian Emergencies Ministry reported that the fire had been successfully extinguished.
