The Government of Finland agreed to transfer a new military aid package to Ukraine worth €109 million.

The President of Finland approved the transfer of a new military aid package on May 25, 2023, at the request of the government. This is the sixteenth shipment of defense assistance from Finland to Ukraine.

The military aid package included, among other things, anti-aircraft weapons and ammunition. The value of the new military aid package is estimated at €109 million.

For operational reasons and to ensure the safe delivery of assistance, additional information about the specific content and method or schedule of delivery is not disclosed.

“Finland continues to support Ukraine together with our international partners. The value of all military aid packages Finland has provided is now €1.1 billion,” Antti Kaikkonen, Minister of Defence of Finland, said.

The press service of the country’s Ministry of Defense notes that the tranche was based on the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In February, it was reported that as part of international cooperation on Leopard armored vehicles, Finland would hand over three Leopard 2R heavy mine breaching vehicles to Ukraine, as well as provide training related to their use and maintenance. In total, Ukraine received six vehicles of this type.

Also, as part of military aid, the country transferred heavy armament, namely ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft autocannons, 120mm mortars, ammunition, and XA-180/185 armored personnel carriers.

In March, the Government of Finland granted Estonia permission to re-export D-30 towed howitzers to Ukraine. Estonia needs Finland’s permission because it’s related to the weapons it has purchased from Finland. The permission of Germany, from which Finland received weapons at one time, was also required.
