Finland has not yet made a decision on the transfer of its Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

The Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin, said about this, Yle reports.

According to her, the government and the president of Finland have repeatedly discussed the issue of supplying Ukraine with German-made Leopard 2 tanks and other defense equipment, but the decision regarding the tanks has not yet been made.

Marin emphasizes that Finland is in a different situation, as it borders Russia, and this must be taken into account.

Finland should also take care of its own defense.

Nevertheless, Finland wants to help Ukraine. However, Sanna Marin did not say whether a decision would be made soon on the Leopard tanks.

“We do not announce this to the public in advance, but when the decision is made, we will talk about what is worth talking about. Different countries had different lines of communication. We were tight-lipped, we don’t list individual things in the public domain. Finland has provided Ukraine with a lot of material, and we are ready to continue doing so,” she said.

Marin also said that she supports the idea of the Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas that the European Union countries jointly buy weapons for Ukraine, thereby strengthening the European defense industry.

“I personally support this idea. That we accelerate the production of defense equipment in Europe. Because we don’t know when the war will end.

This is also due to the fact that the world has changed, and we must be able to strengthen our own defense,” the Prime Minister of Finland said in an interview.

Back in January, it became known that European countries wanted to transfer tanks to Ukraine. In particular, the media reported that Finland would also join these countries and may transfer a certain number of its Leopard 2 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As previously reported, on January 25, the German government agreed to the transfer of 14 Leopard 2A6 tanks to Ukraine, as well as the re-export of tanks from other countries.
