Finland is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine.
Pekka Haavisto, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, announced this.
This will become the 13th package of military assistance for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, it is not yet known what it will include.
For security reasons, the content and timing of provided aid are usually not disclosed.
According to Haavisto, an intensive discussion on the supply of heavy military equipment to Ukraine is currently ongoing.
However, Finland has not yet made a final decision on the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks.
“The Finnish government has not yet made a final decision regarding the supply of Leopard, this issue will be actively discussed by the Finnish authorities. One way or another, we will be a part of this initiative, which is why we constantly maintain a dialogue with Germany, Poland, and other countries,” the Minister said.
In January, the country prepared the largest 12th defense aid package in the amount of approximately €400 million for Ukraine.
Besides, Sanna Marin, Prime Minister of Finland, recently stated that Finland has not yet reached a decision on the transfer of its Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
Marin emphasized that Finland is in a different situation, as it borders Russia, and this must be taken into account.
Nevertheless, Finland wants to help Ukraine. However, Sanna Marin did not share whether a decision on the Leopard tanks would be made soon.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Finland, with the provision of the 12th military aid package to Ukraine in January 2023, the compensation cost of all defense support for Finland is €590 million.
