Finland increases its purchases of 155 mm artillery shells

The Finnish Defense Forces are purchasing additional 155 mm artillery ammunition.

The country’s Ministry of Defense recently announced this.

This order will also increase the production capacity of the ammunition industry.

Nammo Lapua Oy will be supplying 155 mm shells.

The total value of the artillery ammunition purchase is approximately € 103 million, excluding value-added tax.

According to Finnish Defense Minister Antti Kaikonen, this purchase will expand the current stockpile of 155 mm artillery shells of the Finnish Defense Forces and improve “security of supply.”

Besides, purchasing new projectiles will allow the industry to increase the production capacity of ammunition production.

Last month, the Finnish defense forces also ordered a batch of 155 mm BONUS MK II munition, designed for indirect damage to the upper part of armored vehicles at long distances. These ammunitions will be supplied by the French company Nexter Munitions. The total purchase value is about € 35 million.

In addition, Finland ordered NLAW light hand-held anti-tank systems. They are scheduled to be delivered in 2024.

At the beginning of December last year, the Ministry of Defense of Finland announced the purchase of weapons from Israel and Sweden.

The “extended range” rockets purchased in Israel will be used in an unnamed 122 mm light rocket launcher.

The contract with Sweden covers the purchase of Bolide missiles used in ASRAD-R air defense systems and RBS 70 MANPADS.
