Ukrainian servicemen shoot down enemy aerial objects in home skies every day.
In the evening of July 15, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a Russian cruise missile in the sky over the Kyiv Region.
Oleksiy Kuleba, the Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, announced this.
Missile wreckage fell on a field. According to preliminary data, no casualties were reported.
Kuleba noted that authorities are working at the scene of the incident.
The incident happened over the Bila Tserkva district of the Kyiv Region.
“Attention, tonight [July 15 – Ed.] the Air Forces of Ukraine shot down an enemy missile in the sky of the Bila Tserkva district. According to preliminary data, no victims or destruction were reported. Wreckage fell onto a field. The information is being clarified,” Oleksiy Kuleba said in the statement.
The statement did not specify what means of air defense were used to neutralize the enemy air target.
At the same time, an eyewitness recorded a video for social media featuring a Ukrainian fighter jet launching an air-to-air missile at an enemy target at low altitude. The video was published by the “Kyiv Dvizh” Telegram channel.
Presumably, the Ukrainian Su-27 fighter aircraft was guided by ground means into the flight path of a Russian cruise missile flying at a low altitude. After detecting the target, the fighter aircraft launched a missile at it.
It’s very likely that the Su-27 used the R-73 air-to-air missile to destroy the cruise missile.
R-73 is a short-range guided air-to-air missile with an infrared homing system.
