German defense company Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft will build a new armored vehicle plant in Germany. The new site will produce combat armored vehicles based on the Patria 6×6 APC, as well as tracked engineering vehicles.
This was reported by the publication Hartpunkt.
FFG intends to significantly expand its production capacity. A symbolic ceremony to lay the foundation for the new Plant 3 factory took place at the site in Gandevit near the Danish border.
Despite the winter conditions, numerous representatives of politics, government, the Bundeswehr, the armed forces of other countries, and the defense industry attended the event. Plant 3 will be a key project for FFG’s future development. The new armored vehicle plant, located about ten kilometers from the main facility, will create additional production capacity and about 400 jobs.
In the future, it is planned to produce new models of equipment here, in particular ACSV armored combat vehicles based on the Patria 6×6 APC, as well as WiSENT 2 and CAVS engineering vehicles. Production is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2027.
The first phase of construction will include a five-story administrative building, two production workshops, and a logistics complex with an automated high-bay warehouse.
During his speech, FFG shareholder representative Norbert Erichsen emphasized that the company will continue to focus on tracked vehicles and invest in the development of new products. He sees additional growth opportunities, especially in Europe, in cooperation with the Israeli company Elta. He also stressed that the investment is being made exclusively with the company’s own funds, without state support. In addition to Germany, FFG has branches in Israel, Ukraine, and Canada.
It should be recalled that in December 2025, Patria and Germany signed two contracts under the Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS) program with a total value of over €2 billion.
The contracts provide for the purchase of up to 876 Patria 6×6 armored vehicles in four variants. Among them are modifications with the Patria NEMO turret mortar system and the Kongsberg RS4 remote-controlled combat system.
Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026. Patria will then transfer the technology to its German industrial partners FFG, JWT, and KNDS, with whom it signed an industrial cooperation agreement in early 2024.
The first fully locally built vehicles are scheduled to be delivered in 2027, and full local production will be rolled out to meet the Bundeswehr’s potential future needs.
The CAVS program, led by the Finnish Defense Forces, is being implemented by seven countries: Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Norway.
