The flash and the sound of the explosion were recorded by a video surveillance camera. If the time settings of the camera on one of the buildings are correct, then two explosions occurred one after another at 01:35 a.m. Kyiv time.

A sound similar to the flight of a missile or an aircraft with a jet engine preceded the explosions and the flash, recorded by the cameras. An air alert was declared in the area of the Russian military airfield, a video with siren sounds was published on local social networks. However, it is not known whether the air-raid siren was activated before the explosions or after.

Subsequently, the Russian publication Baza reported that the area of the fire after the explosion in Engels was 120 square meters. According to preliminary data, three people died. Four more were hospitalized.

In the morning, the Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country stated that allegedly around 1:35 a.m. Moscow time, or 0:35 a.m. Kyiv time, a Ukrainian drone was shot down during the approach to the Engels military airbase, and that 3 servicemen were killed as a result of its wreckage falling. They also emphasized that allegedly the military equipment was not damaged.

“As a result of the fall of the drone wreckage, three Russian servicemen of technical staff, who were at the airfield, received mortal wounds,” the invaders said.

It is worth noting that no sounds can be heard in the videos published on social networks, which could indicate the operation of Russian air defense in the area of the strategic bomber military airbase of the Russian Air Force in Engels.

This is not the first such incident at this military air base. On December 5, Russia reported that an unknown drone had attacked an airfield in the Saratov region in the morning. According to the Russians, an unknown aircraft crashed on the runway, where strategic bombers are based, which launched missile strikes on Ukraine, including energy and infrastructure facilities. The invaders claimed the explosion had damaged the “aircraft fabric covering” of two planes.

However, satellite images show that at least one turboprop-powered strategic bomber was so damaged that it had to be extinguished.
