An explosion was recorded on a cargo ship flying the Liberian flag and bound for Russia in the Gulf of Finland.

MNS portal reported on this and published photos of the ship.

According to available information, the container ship MSC Giada III, flying the Liberian flag, was en route from Belgium to St. Petersburg.

The incident occurred in the Nevsky Bay area. An explosion occurred in the ship’s engine room, followed by a fire that spread to the deck superstructure.

There were 22 people on board at the time of the incident: the captain was a Russian citizen, and the rest of the crew were Myanmar citizens.Ggg

The rescue vessel Spasatel Karev and the icebreaker Semyon Dezhnev were dispatched from the port of St. Petersburg to provide assistance. Within a few hours, the fire was completely extinguished. As a result of the incident, the ship’s hull was not damaged, and no fuel leakage was reported. After the fire was extinguished, the damaged container ship was towed to the port of St. Petersburg.

Prior to this, Estonia detained the container ship Baltic Spirit, flying the Bahamian flag, in the Gulf of Finland as it was en route to St. Petersburg.
