An experimental 2S18 Pat-S 152mm self-propelled howitzer was spotted in Russia.
Oleksander Kovalenko published a video of it in his Telegram channel.
It is not known where or when the video was filmed. It is also not known what kind of model this ACS is, most likely a single exhibition sample: The 120-mm 2S31 “Vena” in the same camouflage has been presented at various exhibitions since 2010.
In May, Russian media, citing the management of the Kurganmashzavod JSC, reported that the plant plans to modernize Pat-S.
“The modernization of the self-propelled artillery system on the basis of the BMP-3 modified chassis is being conducted. These vehicles, equipped with a 120mm gun (research and development work Vena) and a 152mm gun, can significantly increase the effectiveness of motorized rifle units,” the company claimed.
2S18 Pat-S is an experimental Soviet self-propelled howitzer developed by the Ninth Plant of the Kurganmashzavod JSC in the 1980s.
The self-propelled howitzer was equipped with a 2А63 152mm rifled gun, completely identical to its 2А61 or Pat-B towed variants.
It was equipped with the UTD-29 diesel engine. The maximum engine power was 450 hp, and the ACS had four front and two rear gears.
The maximum speed of Pat-S was 72 kilometers per hour, and in reverse, it reached 21 kilometers per hour.
The chassis later formed the basis of the 2S31 Vena. The same chassis is used in BMP-3.
Unlike the 2S31 Vena, the product did not go into serial production. In turn, the 120-mm Vena received an order abroad, with Azerbaijan being the only foreign customer.
The country ordered and received a batch of 18 units, while Russian gunners in 2010 received an experimental batch with an unknown number of units.
