The Ukrainian company Motor-G has officially presented the VANDAL electric motor, a specialized power unit designed for high-speed interceptor drones weighing 3–5 kg.

Oleksii Hrebin, the company’s Executive Director, told Militarnyi about the technical features of the new motor.

According to Hrebin, the motor was developed specifically to meet frontline requirements. The development process was brief because it was based on a motor previously developed by the company.

“The development didn’t take much time because it is based on another motor we had already built. So it wasn’t difficult,” he said.

The team recognized the demand in time and adapted an existing motor that had not previously been used for interceptor missions.

The product has already been tested on several types of interceptor drones.

The motor is considered specialized because its power output and form factor are specifically designed to handle high loads. While conventional motors often operate at the limits of their capabilities in such conditions, this motor provides a power reserve.

The VANDAL also features a purpose-built design. For example, the shaft length allows the installation of a large-pitch propeller, which is necessary for high-speed flight. Tests on interceptor drones have already demonstrated speeds exceeding 350 km/h.

The developers have also ensured lower winding resistance and higher efficiency, which helps increase the interceptor drone’s operational range. These characteristics also provide a power reserve during maximum acceleration.

The head of Motor-G added that starting this May, the stators for this motor will be 100% locally produced.

“Some components we manufacture locally, while others are still imported. For example, the stators for this motor will be fully localized starting in May,” Oleksii Hrebin said.

The cost of the motor is around UAH 2,000 (approximately $50), depending on the production batch size. Since the product has only just been launched, the price is expected to decrease as production volumes increase.
